Crosbie/Talbot-Crosbie (Ardfert)
Reverend John Crosbie, bishop of Ardfert in the early 1600s, was the common ancestor of the Crosbies of Ardfert (Earls of Glandore) and the Crosbies of Ballyheige. The lands he acquired had previously been the property of the Cantillon family. The two main branches of the family remained influential in the North Kerry area for the next 300 years. The Ardfert family received the title Earl of Glandore in the 1770s. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, William Talbot Crosbie was the lessor of several townlands in the parishes of Ardfert, Kilflynn, Killahan and O'Dorney, barony of Clanmaurice. In the 1870s the Ardfert estate amounted to almost 10,000 acres.
