Name Description
Lynch (Roebuck) Edward Lynch of Roebuck, parish of Kilbride, county Cavan, was one of the electors of the county in 1824. By the time of Griffith’s Valuation his son, Joseph Lynch of Roebuck, held land in the parish of Kilbride from W. O’Reilly Adams and the Earl of Westmeath. He also held land in the parishes of Drung and Castlerahan. The Court Journal of 1833 records the marriage of Joseph Lynch and Kate Somers of Dublin. Kate died in 1837. Joseph married secondly Belinda Jane Breen of Dublin. Griffith's Valuation records him as the principal lessor of Barconny, 138 acres in the parish of Castlerahan, which was for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court in 1852. Joseph died in 1858. In 1876, Mrs Joseph Lynch of Roebuck, Mount Nugent, owned 326 acres and John B. Lynch of Roebuck owned 138 acres in the county. Joseph and Belinda Lynch’s sixth son, Michael Palles Lynch of Dungimon, county Cavan and Coola, county Westmeath, is recorded in Walford’s County Families, 1910.
Adams-Reilly The Adams family were descended from William Adams of Howthstown, Co Meath, who married Maria, only daughter and heir of Thomas Reilly of Roebuck, in the parish of Kilbride, county Cavan, who died 1786. Their son Anthony Adams Reilly of Roebuck had a son William Adams Reilly of Belmont, county Westmeath. William of Belmont had a son Anthony Myles William, a well known Irish mountaineer and surveyor of the Alps. Anthony Adams Reilly of Belmont, Mullingar, owned 189 acres in county Westmeath in the 1870s. His estate passed to his sisters, Mary Anne, wife of Falkiner John Minchin of Annagh, co Tipperary and Frances Caroline who married the Reverend James Thomas Bennet in 1861. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1850s, the county Cavan estate of this family was in the hands of Joseph Lynch who is recorded as holding land in the parish of Kilbride from the representatives of William O’Reilly Adams and the Earl of Westmeath.
O'Reilly (Cavan) A Gaelic chieftain family resident in county Cavan for generations. One branch of the family held extensive lands in both counties Meath and Cavan. From the mid-18th century their main residence was at Baltrasna, Oldcastle, county Meath. The county Cavan estate was located in the parishes of Denn, Kilbride, Kilmore, Crosserlough and Mullagh. In 1878 the representatives of Anthony O’Reilly of Baltrasna owned 3,053 acres in county Cavan and 1,536 acres in county Meath. This family have a common ancestry with the family of Adams O’Reilly of Roebuck, county Cavan. Edward O’Reilly held land in the parish of Bailieborough, county Cavan, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation. Edward S. O’Reilly of Woodfort, Kingscourt owned 443 acres in 1876. Other members of O’Reilly families held lands in the parishes of Annagh, Annagelliff and Larah in the mid-19th century and a long list of O’Reillys who held more than one acre but less than 500 acres appears in the landowners of 1876.
