Adams-Reilly

The Adams family were descended from William Adams of Howthstown, Co Meath, who married Maria, only daughter and heir of Thomas Reilly of Roebuck, in the parish of Kilbride, county Cavan, who died 1786. Their son Anthony Adams Reilly of Roebuck had a son William Adams Reilly of Belmont, county Westmeath. William of Belmont had a son Anthony Myles William, a well known Irish mountaineer and surveyor of the Alps. Anthony Adams Reilly of Belmont, Mullingar, owned 189 acres in county Westmeath in the 1870s. His estate passed to his sisters, Mary Anne, wife of Falkiner John Minchin of Annagh, co Tipperary and Frances Caroline who married the Reverend James Thomas Bennet in 1861. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1850s, the county Cavan estate of this family was in the hands of Joseph Lynch who is recorded as holding land in the parish of Kilbride from the representatives of William O’Reilly Adams and the Earl of Westmeath.
