Rogers (Co Sligo & Ashgrove, Co Cork)
Robert A. Rogers, together with the Earl of Aldborough and William Beamish, were lessors of lands in the parish of Killery, barony of Tirerrill, county Sligo, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. They were the owners of over 500 acres in county Sligo in the 1870s. The representatives of Robert A. Rogers also owned 271 acres in county Cork at the same time. This Rogers family were established at Ashgrove, Great Island, county Cork, in the early 18th century by George Rogers. They were a junior branch of the Rogers family of Lota, county Cork. George Rogers purchased forfeited lands in the baronies of Muskerry and Barrymore in 1703. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Robert Atkins Rogers held land in the parishes of Kilbonane, barony of East Muskerry and Whitechurch, barony of Barretts, county Cork. The estate of Robert Atkins Rogers in the barony of Muskerry and premises in Youghal were advertised for sale in July 1853. Over 1,300 acres of the Rogers estate was advertised for sale in May 1856. Further parts of the Rogers estate in the baronies of Barretts and Cork, were for sale in November 1858 including Cloghfadda House and Knockanroe. In 1832 Robert A. Rogers married Alice Gregory of Youghal and they had one son David Gregory Rogers and three daughters. David G. Rogers died in Victoria in 1903. In February 1862, the estate of Mary Twogood (nee Rogers), Pigott Rogers and Katherine Rogers, amounting to over 550 acres in Kerrycurrihy barony, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court.
