Description |
Violetstown is named on both the first edition OS map and the 25 inch map but the ground plan does not look the same. O’Brien describes it as a two storey, five-bay Victorian house. This was a Smith property in the 18th and 19th centuries. Taylor and Skinner refer to Smith Esq at Violetstown in the 1770s. Valued at £13 at the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854), it was the resident of Edward Lewis who held it from Francis Pratt Smyth/Smith. Edward Lewis was still the tenant when Violetstown was for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court on 4 July 1874. It was the home of Charles Edward Levinge and his wife at the beginning of the 20th century and remained in Levinge possession until the 1980s. It is now demolished. |
