Johnston (Drumhome) The estate of Charles and James Johnston was among the principal proprietors in the parish of Drumhome, Barony of Tirhugh at the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1850s. The representatives of Charles Johnston of Tullybrook, Laghy, owned over 2300 acres in County Donegal in the 1870s. Local sources suggest the Johnstons purchased this estate from the Wyatt family in the mid-nineteenth century and it remained in the family until the 1940s.
Johnston (Raphoe South and Magheramenagh) In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh recorded James Johnston of Summerhill, Stranorlar, as the owner of over 1100 acres in county Donegal. At the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s he was the principal landowner in the parishes of Conwal, Donaghmore and Kilteevoge, barony of Raphoe South. In 1878 Robert Edgeworth Johnston of Magheramenagh Castle, County Fermanagh offered for sale the rental of over 500 acres in the barony of Raphoe, County Donegal as well as lands in the barony of Magheraboy, County Fermanagh.
