Forster/Foster (Ballymaloe & Garrettstown)

Property at Ballymallowmore [Ballymaloe] and Parkylissig, barony of Imokilly, county Cork, was originally leased to Abraham Forster [Collector of Cork excise] by Richard Longfield in May 1790. The lease was renewed in 1841 to Abraham Thomas Forster. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Abraham Foster held land in the parishes of Cloyne, Middleton and Titeskin, barony of Imokilly, county Cork. In the 1870s Abraham T. Forster of Garretstown, Ballinspittle, is recorded as owning 1,578 acres in county Cork. 135 acres, the property of Robert Forster, at Carriganass, barony of East Carbery, were offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in July 1865 but the sale was adjourned due to insufficient bidding.

Cuthbert

Thomas Cuthbert is recorded as one of the principal lessors in the parish of O'Brennan, barony of Trughanacmy, county Kerry, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. The estate of Thomas Cuthbert, a minor, of England, amounted to over 3000 acres in county Kerry and the same amount in county Cork in the 1870s. The Ordnance Survey Name Books indicate that Thomas Cuthbert, of Garretstown, Kinsale, was the proprietor of townlands in the parish of Ardfert in the 1830s and that John O'Connell, of Knockeanogh, Ardfert was the agent for his Kerry estate. In June 1867 the estate of Thomas Cuthbert, John Cuthbert and Arthur Cuthbert, minors, in the barony of Middlethird, county Tipperary and at Old Abbey, Corbally, Knockpoge and Ravakeel, barony of East Muskerry, county Cork, and advowsons was advertised for sale on behalf of their testamentary guardians. This estate held in fee simple amounted to 849 acres in county Cork and 1,107 acres in county Tipperary. In July and again in November 1877, the farm of Leighmoneymore, barony of Kinalea, county Cork, amounting to over 150 acres, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. It was owned by Edward Bishopp, under a fee-farm grant from Thomas Cuthbert. In 1883, Bateman records T. Cuthbert as the owner of over 3900 acres in county Cork.

Litchfield

An estate of 429 acres belonging to John Litchfield and located at Cloyne, barony of Imokilly and in the barony of West Carbery, county Cork, was advertised for sale in April 1870. The estate of Sarah Litchfield, widow of John Litchfield, in the barony of Imokilly, was advertised for sale in November 1882. It was advertised again in May 1883 but the sale was adjourned due to lack of bidding. This property at Ballymallowmore [Ballymaloe] and Parkylissig was originally leased to Abraham Forster by Richard Longfield in May 1790. The lease was renewed in 1841 to Abraham Thomas Forster. Soon after Forster's interest became vested in John Litchfield, who is recorded as occupying Ballymaloe in the early 1850s. In the 1870s John Litchfield of Ballymaloe owned 417 acres in county Cork.
