Donnellan (Kilconnell)

Estate(s)

Name Description
Donnellan (Kilconnell) The Donnellan family of Hillswood is connected with that of Ballydonelan. Burke states that the families of Hillswood, Nutgrove and Ballydonelan have a common ancestor in John Donnellan, son of Loughlin Donnellan. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Edward Donnellan was leasing over 280 acres at Hillswood, barony of Kilconnell, to Obadiah Holland. In the 1870s the Donnellan estate amounted to over 800 acres.
Donnellan Edmund Donnellan owned property in and around Kinvarra at the time of Griffith's Valuation. A Nicholas Donnellan was resident at Jockey-Hall, near Gort, in 1814. Edward J.B. Donnellan is recorded as holding over 800 acres in county Galway in the 1870s. There may be a connection between this family and the Donnellan family who held the estate of Hillswood in the barony of Kilconnell.
