Seymour (Galway)
The Seymour family first settled in east Galway in the late 17th century. The families at Ballymore and Somerset were descended from the two brothers, Thomas and John. The estate of Simeon Robert Eyre Seymour at Somerset was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates court in June 1855. It was held under leases renewable forever. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Thomas Seymour of Ballymore Castle also held land in the parishes of Addergoole and Liskeevy, barony of Dunmore. The Seymour estate amounted to over 3000 acres in the 1870s. The estate was offered for sale in the Land Judges' Court in January 1886 but no bids were forthcoming on that occasion. In 1906 Walter G. Seymour was in possession of an untenanted demesne of 250 acres at Ballymore Lower as well as his house valued at £33. At the same time Charles Seymour held over 450 acres of an untenanted demesne at Somerset.
