Cochrane (Inishowen)
In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh recorded Richard Cochrane of Springfield, Quigley’s Point as the owner of over 600 acres in County Donegal. He was leasing townlands in the parish of Muff at the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s and may in turn have been leasing property from the Marquis of Donegall’s estate. Burke suggests that the Cochranes acquired lands at Red Castle through marriage with Elizabeth Doherty, daughter of Richard Doherty.
