Stewart (Ards and Marble Hill)
Alexander J.R. Steward of Ards, County Donegal was listed as the lessor of 46 townlands in the parish of Clondahorky as well as townlands in the parishes of Raymunterdoney, barony of Kilmacrenan and Donaghmore, barony of Raphoe South, County Donegal at the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1850s. He was recorded as owning over 39,000 acres in the county and a further 5000 acres in County Down in the 1870s. Burke states that this branch of the Stewart family descends from Alexander Stewart, of Mount Stewart, County Down, brother of Robert, 1st Marquess of Londonderry.
