Thomas "Battersby"of Rathmullan, County Donegal, is recorded by Hussey de Burgh as the owner of over 4000 acres in County Donegal at the same. time. Burke states that this family derive from Samuel Batt, of Osier Hill, County Wexford whose will was proven in 1716.
