Name Description
Tighe (Woodstock) Richard Tighe settled in Dublin in the mid-17th century and acquired large estates in counties Carlow, Dublin and Westmeath. In 1765, his descendant William Tighe of Rossana, county Wicklow, married Sarah, only child of Sir William Fownes of Woodstock, county Kilkenny. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) their grandson, the Right Hon William Frederick Fownes Tighe of Woodstock, county Kilkenny, owned an estate of over 5,000 acres in county Westmeath, mainly in the parish of Castletowndevlin. Besides his estate in county Westmeath he owned 12,046 acres in county Kilkenny, 3,909 acres in county Carlow, 1,183 acres in county Tipperary and 591 acres in county Wexford in the 1870s. His mother was Marianne daughter and co heir of Daniel Gahan of Coolquil, county Tipperary and his wife Hannah Bunbury of Kilfeakle. Hannah Bunbury was a co heiress to her uncle Matthew Bunbury of Kilfeakle. Hussey also records his nephew Frederick E. Tighe as the owner of 590 acres in county Tipperary.
Gahan In 1666 Daniel Gahan and his wife Susanna, widow of Thomas Ashe, were granted of about 1,000 Irish acres in the barony of Slievardagh, county Tipperary, including Coolequill. O'Hart records three sons of this marriage, Sir Daniel, George and John. Sir Daniel had no children and was succeeded by George. George's grandson, Daniel of Coolquill Castle, parish of Crohane, barony of Slievardagh, married Hannah Bunbury of Kilfeakle, co heiress of her uncle, Matthew Bunbury. In 1793 their daughter Marianne married William Tighe of Woodstock, county Kilkenny. Daniel Gahan was a Member of the Irish House of Commons in 1797. He had no sons and O'Hart writes that his property was inherited by his daughters Marianne Tighe and Penelope Gledstones [Gledstanes].
