Hassard (Waterford)

Mrs. Anne Hassard was the owner of over 300 acres in county Waterford in the 1870s as well as over 250 acres in county Kilkenny. The family were lessors in parishes around Waterford City at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Mrs Anne Hassard was the daughter of Sir Francis John Hassard. In 1846 she married her cousin Michael Dobbyn Hassard of Glenville, county Waterford. and they had 2 sons William and Richard. William Hassard of Monkstown, county Dublin, owned 1,308 acres in county Tipperary in the 1870s. This family originally from Dorset was granted land in county Fermanagh in the 17th century.

Hassard (Gardenhill & Tuam)

The Hassards were granted land in county Fermanagh at the end of the 17th century settling at Gardenhill, county Fermanagh and Toam [Tuam, county Cavan] and by the early 19th century a branch was resident at Glenville, county Waterford. In the mid-18th century Jason Hassard was agent to the Pleydell estate. By the mid-19th century members of the family held lands in the county Cavan parishes of Killinagh, Templeport and Kinawley, barony of Tullyhaw. In 1876, the representatives of Alexander Jason Hassard of Gardenhill, held 3,610 acres, Richard Hassard of London held 3,749 acres, Francis John Hassard of Dublin held 539 acres and Mrs J.H. Hassard of Dublin held 342 acres, all in county Cavan.

Crawford (Maperath)

This family originally came from Scotland and settled in county Fermanagh. John Maxwell Crawford who, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation, held a number of townlands in the parish of Drung, barony of Tullygarvey, county Cavan, was the son of the Reverend Jason Crawford and his wife Henrietta, daughter of Henry Rowley of Maperath, county Meath. The Reverend Jason’s father John Crawford of Laurencestown, county Meath, was the grandson of Robert Crawford of Oakley Park, county Meath and his wife Alice daughter of Jason Hassard of Gardenhill, county Fermanagh. John M. Crawford of Maperath owned 547 acres in county Cavan in 1876, while Jason Crawford of Dublin owned 113 acres. Jason Crawford was married to Catherine daughter of Gustavus Brooke of Brookehill, county Donegal. Jason Crawford who died in March 1846 (Anglo-Celt 17 April 1846), lived at Lakeview in Ballyhally for a time, this house was later in the possession of Patrick Kellett. Magee (Tully Lodge)

Charles Magee of Tully, near Killashandra, county Cavan, bought leases of land from Edward Whitely and Moses Netterfield in the 1830s. His son William of Tully Lodge, owned 1,228 acres in 1876. In the mid-19th century William held four townlands in the parish of Kinawley and seems to have purchased part of the Hassard of Tircahan estate in 1852 or held it from Robert Hutton. He died in 1878.
