Ó Gráda writes that Michael O'Donnell was born at Lower Seskin, Kilsheelan, in 1851. He married a daughter of John Shea of Bannixtown and acquired that property. Various members of the O'Donnell family owned estates of less than 400 acres in the Caher, Clonmel, Carrick area of south Tipperary in the 1870s.
