Estate(s)

Name Description
Bourchier (Co Galway) At the time of Griffith's Valuation, James Bourchier occupied a house at Rathglass, parish of Killaan, barony of Kilconnell, valued at £13. In the 1870s the Bourchier estate in Galway amounted to over 500 acres with further lands in county Kilkenny as well. In November 1887 this estate was offered for sale in the Land Judges' Court by A.M. Bouchier and others but the sale was adjourned due to absence of bidding.
Lynch (Kilconnell) In 1824 the Lynch family are recorded as being of Rathglass in the parish of Kilconnell. The Rathglass estate of Eyre Lynch was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court in July and again in November, 1850. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Charles B. Lynch was the occupier of Ashbrook House, also in the parish of Killaan, barony of Kilconnell. By the 1870s this property was the residence of James Ryan. The OS Name Books record James Lynch as the proprietor of several townlands in the parish of Grange, barony of Kilconnell and was one of the principal lessors there at the time of Griffith's Valuation. The estate of James Lynch, an insolvent, was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court in June, 1864. It included lands at Rahally, in the barony of Kilconnell. It was bought by E. Kelly Lynch. Described as the estate of James M. Lynch lands totalling over 250 acres were offered for sale again in June 1880. The petitioner was the Irish Civil Service Building Society. Between 1871 and 1873 over 250 acres, the property of Edmond Kelly Lynch, at Rahally in the barony of Kilconnell, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. The latter, however, is listed as the owner of over 250 acres in county Galway in 1876.
