Burke (Danesfield)

The Burkes of Danesfield, parish and barony of Moycullen, county Galway, owned an estate of about 2,500 acres in that parish, throughout the 19th century. They were originally merchants in the town of Galway and purchased their estate from the Lynches of Drimcong in the late 18th century. They also owned just over 200 acres in county Limerick in the 1870s. Daisy, daughter of George Burke, married Arthur James Plunkett, Earl of Fingall in 1883. Her memoir, ''Seventy Years Young'', describes life at Danesfield in the mid nineteenth century.
