Dalton/D'Alton (Mount Dalton)
The Dalton family were another old family of county Westmeath who lost much of their land in the 17th century. Oliver Dalton lived at Milltown and Mount Dalton. He married Catherine O’Reilly of Ballinlough and they had four sons, three of whom, Richard, Oliver and James, served in the Austrian army and were created Counts in 1777. Oliver married Maria Costello of Tullaghan, county Mayo and had three sons and two daughters. The daughters married Robert Dillon O’Reilly and Ignatius Dillon Begg. The Begg family were living at Mount Dalton at the beginning of the 19th century.
