Cromie (Westmeath)
At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) the county Westmeath estate of Sir William Lambart ‘Crombie’ [Cromie] of Toddington Park, Leicestershire, was located in the parishes of Kilbeggan, Dysart, Castletownkindalen and Newtown. Sir William was the only son of Sir Michael Cromie of Stacumnie, county Kildare, created a baronet in 1776 and his wife Gertrude, daughter and heiress of Ford Lambart, 5th Earl of Cavan. Sir Michael’s father was William Cromie of Dublin, merchant. In 1816 Sir William married Anne Rachel Hicks and died in 1841. In the mid-1870s Lady Cromie of Witcombe Park, Gloucester owned 796 acres in county Westmeath and 394 acres in county Kildare. Editions of the Peerage from the late 1830s onwards record the Rev John Cromie, rector of Ballinrobe, county Mayo who married in 1795 a daughter of the 1st Baron Kilmaine, as a brother of Sir Michael Cromie.
