Daly (Mornington)
In the early 18th century Thomas Daly of Mornington, county Westmeath, married Eleanor, daughter of Owen Young of Castlerea, county Roscommon. Their descendant Owen Daly, born 1780, married in 1816, Kate daughter of Thomas Cooke of Retreat near Athlone and they had a large family of nine children. The eldest Edward was born in 1817 and in 1850 married his cousin Catherine daughter of William Cooke of Retreat. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) Edward Daly’s estate was mainly located in the parish of Stonehall, county Westmeath but also in the parishes of Multifarnham and Tyfarnham.
