McDonnell (Castledaly)
George McDonnell bought Castledaly and Aghavoneen, 554 acres in the parish of Kilcleagh, county Westmeath, in November 1850 from the sale of the estate of Denis Daly. According to The Gardener’s Chronicle and Agricultural Gazette 1850, page 339, Lot 13 was sold to Mr Kane, a solicitor, representing a Scotch capitalist, who paid £9,400 for the house and 554 acres of demesne. According to O’Brien George McDonnell became a bankrupt ten years later. The property was then sold to Thomas Scruton Odell.
