White (Longford)
Burke states that this family derive from Luke White of Woodlands, County Dublin, an MP for Leitrim and High Sheriff of Longford in 1806. The Law Times report in 1846 that Luke White bought an estate in county Longford from the sale of the Buckingham and Chandos Irish estates. The Peerage records the death of Luke White of Rathcline, county Longford, in 1854. He was not married. He had a nephew Luke White of Chandos, county Longford, who had a brother Henry William White. Griffith’s Valuation records the representatives of Luke White holding one townland in the parish of Scrabby, county Cavan, a parish on the border with county Longford. At the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s, Colonel Henry White was a principal lessor in the parishes of Cashel, barony of Rathcline and Agharra, Kilcommock, Kilglass and Taghshinny in the barony of Shrule, County Longford. Separately, Baron Annaly. Of Woodlands, Clonsilla, County Dublin owned over 12,000 acres in County Longford. Luke White of Eversham, Blackrock, owned over 1300 acres. This was principally in the parishes of Killoe, barony of Ardagh, Cashel, barony of Rathcline and Columbkille, barony of Granard. In 1878, Henry William White owned 322 acres in county Cavan and 3,197 acres in county Longford. Henry William White of Southwell, county Longford, was High Sheriff of the county in 1866.
