Moorhead/ Power (Annaghmakerrig)
In 1802, the Annaghmakerrig estate was bought from the Lee family by John Moorhead, a local doctor, and later inherited by John Moorhead, J.P. for county Monaghan. In the mid-19th century John Moorhead held townlands in the parishes of Aghabog and Killeevan, barony of Dartree. In 1859, his daughter Martha married William Power. William was the son of Tyrone Power, a well-known Irish actor. William was knighted in 1865 and appointed Agent-General for New Zealand in 1876. At that time the representatives of John Moorhead and Sir William Power were the owners of 511 acres in county Monaghan. One of William and Martha daughters, Norah Power, was the mother of Tyrone Guthrie and it was through his mother that Tyrone inherited Annaghmakerrig, where the Tyrone Guthrie Centre for arts is now located. http://www.tyroneguthrie.ie/history
