Smyth (Mount Henry)
Henry Smyth of Mount Henry, Queen’s County and Terlicken, county Longford, married Olivia, daughter of Reverend Edward Lucas of Cootehill, county Cavan and died in 1838. In the mid-nineteenth century their only son, Edward Randal Skeffington Smyth of Mount Henry, held two townlands in the parish of Clontibret, barony of Cremorne, county Monaghan. Edward S.R.”Smith” was recorded among the principal lessors in the parishes of Cashel and Shrule, barony of Rathcline and Kilcommock, barony of Moydow, County Longford at the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s. Hussey de Burgh noted Edward Skiffington Randal Smyth as the owner of over 600 acres in County Longford in the 1870s. His seat was at Mount Henry, Ballybrittas, in Queen’s County where he owned over 2000 acres. Burke states that this branch of the Smyth family is descended from Reverend Edward Smyth, consecrated Bishop of Down and Connor, 1699. In 1876, Edward R.S. Smyth of Dublin owned 760 acres in county Monaghan.
