Stewart (Horn Head)
Charles Frederick Stewart of Horn Head, Dunfanaghy, was recorded as the owner of over 4000 acres in County Donegal in the 1870s. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation, he was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clondahorky, Mevagh and Tullaghobegley, barony of Kilmacrenan. This branch of the Stewart family claims Scottish descent and have been associated with the Horn Head estate since 1700. Burke suggests that the ancestor of the family is Captain William Stewart, an officer in the Williamite army, who purchased estates at Horn Head from John Forward and William Sampson.
