Chichester (Marquis of Donegall)
In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh noted that the Marquis of Donegall’s estate in County Donegal amounted to over 8000 acres with an even larger estate of over 14,000 acres in County Antrim. In addition, the Marquis was the owner of almost another 140,000 acres in various Ulster counties which were leased on long term leases or in perpetuity. In the 1850s, the Donegall estate was noted among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clonmany, Donagh, Moville and Muff in the barony of Inishowen East and the parish of Burt, parish of Inishowen West. In addition, Lord Templemore (usually the heir to the Marquis of Donegall) was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Minitiaghs or Barr of Inch, Burt and Inch. Miss Chichester was noted as the owner of over 500 acres. Reverend Lord Edward Chichester was among the principal lessors in the parish of Leck, barony of Raphoe North, in the 1850s. In 1850 and 1851, the rentals of over 3500 acres in the barony of Inishowen, the property of the late Sir Arthur Chichester, an insolvent, was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court. In the 1870s Messers. Campbell and Lynch of Carnamoyle, Muff, County Donegal, are noted as the owners of over 1200 acres, formerly leased from the Marquis of Donegall's estates.
