Chearnley
Richard A. Chearnley of Salterbridge, Cappoquin, owned over 18,000 acres in county Waterford in the 1870s. Burke indicates that Anthony Chearnley had an estate at Spring Park, Affane, county Waterford, in the eighteenth century. He married as his second wife, Jane Musgrave, of Salterbridge, thereby acquiring that estate, which remained in the Chearnley family until the 1950s. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Richard Chearnley was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Kilgobnet, Lickoran, Modelligo and Seskinan, barony of Decies-without-Drum. His brother, Captain William Chearnley, held townlands in Kilmolash parish at the same time. In 1868 lands at Templemichael or Springmount, which were leased from the Chearnley estate by the Pollock family, were offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court.
