Farmar
This family were Elizabethan settlers who came to hold land in counties Cork, Tipperary and Wexford. In 1700 Robert Farmar of Fergus, county Cork married Grace, daughter and co heir of William Hovell of Mount Hovell [Monfieldstown], county Cork. The Farmar Papers include a rental of the estate of Jaspar Farmar of Ashgrove, county Tipperary in counties Cork and Tipperary dated 1701. The Farmar estate in the vicinity of Cork city amounted to about 1,500+ acres in the 1780s and included Mount Hovell, Curcanway and Monygorny. Hugh Hovell Farmar [of Dunsinane, Enniscorthy, county Wexford] was agent for the Carew, Bridges and other estates in the 1820s. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Hugh Farmar held a townland in the parish of Grenagh, barony of Barretts, county Cork and in June 1861 the estate of the Reverend Hugh Hovel Baskerville Farmar at Knockentota, barony of Barretts, parts of Kilnagleary, barony of Kerricurrihy, county Cork and Templescobin, barony of Bantry, county Wexford, was advertised for sale. The Reverend Hugh Farmar lived at Dunsinane, county Wexford.
