Bennett (Bennett's Court)
The Bennetts were established in county Cork by the mid 17th century and were seated at Ballymore by the mid 18th century. Joseph Bennett, whose will was dated 1761, married Elizabeth Warren and had an only daughter and heiress, Susanna, who married George Jackson of Glanbeg, county Waterford in 1781. They had four sons Joseph H. of Bennett's Court, George of Glanbeg, Reverend John and Captain Edward. The eldest, Joseph Henry, succeeded to the Bennett estate and took that name. He died in 1861 and was succeeded by his nephew,Thomas Edward, who was succeeded by his brother,John Charles in 1869. He also took the name and arms of Bennett and in 1865 married Mary, daughter and co heir of the Reverend Francis Newport. They had two sons and four daughters. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Joseph Henry Bennett owned an estate in the parishes of Donaghmore, barony of Barretts and Templerobin, barony of Barrymore, county Cork. The Bennett estate amounted to 1,851 acres in the 1870s.
