Wakeham
The Parliamentary Papers refer to William Wakeham of Barry's Court, county Cork, who bought some of the forfeited estate of Arthur Galway and Ignatius Gould in the South Liberties of Cork in 1702. The Wakehams appear to have been residing at Springhill, barony of Barrymore, county Cork, from the early 18th century as Sir Bernard Burke in his account of the Farmar family refers to the marriage of Jane Farmar and William Wakeman of Springhill. Jane's sister was born in 1702. Joseph B. Wakeham held land in the parish of Carrigtohill, barony of Barrymore, county Cork, in the mid 19th century. In the 1870s members of the Wakeham families, including Joseph of Springhill, owned about 1,100 acres in the Carrigtohill and Middleton locality. An estate of 436 acres at Slievedotia, barony of Barretts, belonging to Henry Bird and Joseph Barter Wakeham, was advertised for sale in May 1872. In July 1877 Joseph Barter Wakeman's estate of 321 acres in the barony of Barrymore was advertised for sale. it was held under a lease dated 1827 from John Vereker to William John Wakeman.
