Furlong (Richmond)
John Furlong held an estate in the parishes of Castletownroche and Templeroan, barony of Fermoy, county Cork, in the mid 19th century. The Furlongs were prosperous millers and held a large flour mill from Richard Welstead at Dannanstown. John Furlong (died 1869) married Susanna, daughter of Francis Hodder of Ballea Castle and they had at least three sons Charles J. Furlong of Richmond, Francis Hodder Furlong of Ballynamona House and John Pedder Furlong of D'Loughtane, Clashmore, county Waterford. In 1884 John P. Furlong married Geraldine, only surviving child of Thomas FitzGerald of Ballinapark, county Waterford. In the 1870s John Pedder Furlong of county Waterford owned 553 acres in county Waterford and Charles John Furlong of Richmond owned 177 acres in county Cork.
