Sampey

Henry Sampey was leasing property in the barony of Castlereagh at the time of Griffith's Valuation. By the 1870s the estate of Alexander Sampey, based at Willsborough, Ballinlough, amounted to over 1300 acres in county Roscommon. Gormley states that the Sampeys inherited the Ballyglass estate from Jack Farrell who had married one of the daughters of the McDermott family who were the owners in the eighteenth century. It was sold to the Congested Districts Board in 1912.
