Courtney (Athenry)
At the time of Griffith's Valuation Thomas Courtney was leasing Prospect House/Lodge in Athenry to John Lopdell. The Courtney family are recorded as the owners of over 1500 acres in county Galway in the 1870s. They were residing at Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin. Kelly noted that they also held lands in the Craughwell area and that Mr. Courtney, a Dublin solicitor, collected the rent for his brothers.
