At the time of Griffith's Valuation William Hone held 4 townlands in the parish of Kilkerrin, barony of Tiaquin, county Galway. Three of these townlands were leased to Andrew W. Irwin. A Joseph Hone of Boyle, county Roscommon, owned 124 acres in county Galway in the 1870s.
