MacDonagh
The MacDonagh family had an ancient association with this part of County Sligo. The lands at Carrowkeel were held on long lease from the Gore-Booth estate. In 1872 60 acres in Carrowkeel, originally the property of William Tute, were offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. A manuscript note on the Sale Notice indicates that the land was purchased by Jones Taaffe McDonagh in July 1872. Further sales took place in the Land Judges' Court in 1880 and 1883. The Congested Districts Board acquired over 100 acres from A.W. MacDonagh in the early twentieth century.
