Description In 1854, the sale notice of rentals of property in the Encumbered Estates Court, held by members of the Cummins family, refers to Silver Spring. It is similarly named on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map but as Silver Spring House on the later 25-inch edition. The observations in the sale notice describe Silverspring as having been for some years the residence of the late Joseph King Cummins. The demesne was tastefully planted and the dwelling house in good repair. It records the tenant at that time as Major George Thompson. It is noted that the land in that lot was held under two distinct leases, dating from 1789, between John and Edward Galway of the one part and Sir Richard Kellett of the other. Major Thompson is recorded as the occupier of a property valued at £42 at the time of Griffiths Valuation, leasing from Mary Cummins. The site is now occupied by modern housing.
