Description The seat of the Maxwell family, Earls of Farnham, built about the turn of the 18th century for John Maxwell, son of the Bishop of Kilmore, who had purchased the estate from the Waldrons. A library and other alterations designed by James Wyatt were added in the 1780s. In the early 19th century Francis Johnston was employed by the 2nd Earl to rebuild the house. The buildings were valued at £120 in the mid-19th century. The house was remodelled again in the 1960s when dry rot was found to be prevalent and much of the 18th building was demolished. The house remained in the possession of the Maxwell family until the early 21st century. It is now a country house hotel. https://www.farnhamestate.ie/
