Description | Documents in the Westport Estate Papers record the leasing of the fishing at Aasleagh 'Assdia' by the Viscounts Bourke of Mayo to the ffrench family of Galway in the 17th century. The 19th century lodge was let to the Honourable David Plunket in the 1850s. It was burnt down in 1923 but renovated and leased as a fishing lodge to various persons. It was let to Lord and Lady Brabourne, relatives of the Brownes of Westport, in the 1970s before its sale to the Fisheries Board. |
