Maunsell (Rathcannon)

Rathcannon, parish of Athlacca, county Limerick, belonged to the Casey family in the mid 17th century and had passed by marriage to the Wray family baronets by the beginning of the 18th century. The Wrays leased Rathcannon to the Webbs. Archdeacon William Wray Maunsell of Limerick was a descendant of the Wrays. The main seat of his branch of the Maunsell family was at Thorpe Manor, Northamptonshire. He held the townland of Rathcannon (2,130 acres) and other lands in the parishes of Monasteranenagh, barony of Smallcounty, Aglishcormish, barony of Clanwilliam and Ballingaddy, barony of Coshlea at the time of Griffith's Valuation. His representatives with the Earl of Buckingham, the Honourable Jane Knox and Colonel William W. Maunsell owned 1,815 acres in county Limerick in the 1870s.
