Wilder (Longford)
|
The Wilder family had been associated with land ownership in County Longford since the 17th century and several members served as High Sheriffs of Longford. Theaker Wilder (1717-1778) had an expertise in Greek and Mathematics and was on the staff of Trinity College Dublin though he later served as a clergyman in Donegal. Family history sources suggest his grandson Mathew left Castle Wilder to his son-in-law, Captain Hugh Pollock who, in 1845, sold it to Richard P. O’Reilly, a medical doctor.
