Ledwith

At the time of Griffiths Valuation, in the 1850s, Edward Ledwith was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Cashel and Kilcommock, Barony of Rathcline. In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh recorded James Symes Ledwith, with an address in the Isle of Man, as the owner of almost 2000 acres in County Longford. Local sources suggest that the Ledwith family settled in this area in the mid-17th century and remained the owners of Ledwithstown until around 1911. Many of them served as High Sheriffs of County Longford.
