Newstead (Bunowen)

At the beginning of the 18th century Richard Newstead of Bunowen, county Westmeath, purchased about 950 acres in county Westmeath from the trustees for the sale of forfeited estates, previously part of the estate of King James. He paid £2,851 for acreages in Lisdusken, Lissoy, Cannerstowne and Tully in the barony of Kilkenny West. Part of Lissoy later came into the possession of the Goldsmith family. Richard Newstead son and heir of Richard Newstead of Cavenaghstown, county Westmeath, Esq entered Gray’s Inn in 1714.
