Low/Lowe (Newtown Low)

Estate(s)

Name Description
Low/Lowe (Newtown Low) In 1667, William Lowe was granted 5,217 acres in the barony of Moycashell, county Westmeath and two years later a further 512 acres. He and his brothers were soldiers in Cromwell’s army. The Lows were connected by marriage to the Pilkington, North and Cuppage families but by the 19th century the family appear to have died out in county Westmeath. Lewis wrote in 1837 that Newtownlow (N382368), formerly the residence of the Low family is now in ruins. http://www.bomford.net/IrishBomfords/Chapters/Chapter23/low_family_of_newtown.htm
