Chenevix
|
At the time of Griffith’s Valuation [publ. 1854] Mrs Sophia Chenevix held the townland of Monasset, 912 acres in the parish of Rahugh, county Westmeath, in fee. She lived at 28 Sussex Gardens, Hyde Park, London. Monasset was in the possession of her representatives by 1878 who also owned 1,808 acres in King’s County (Offaly). It would appear that Sophia Chenevix was in some way connected to the Chenevix family of Ballycommon, King’s County. This family was of Huguenot descent. Lieut Col Daniel Chenevix of Ballycommon married Elizabeth Arabin and had a son Richard Chenevix, mineralogist and author, died 1830. see https://www.dib.ie/biography/chenevix-richard-a1633
