D'Arcy (Hyde Park)
|
The D’Arcys of Hyde Park, county Westmeath, were a branch of the D’Arcy family of Plattyn, county Meath. James D’Arcy, a younger son of John D’Arcy of Dunmow, county Meath, was settled at Hyde Park in the mid-18th century. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) his grandson George James Norman D’Arcy held the townland of Hyde Park, 701 acres in fee. In the mid-1870s he was recorded as the proprietor of 848 acres in the county. He was a barrister and JP for counties Westmeath and Meath. O’Brien gives a detailed account of this family.
