Nugent (Ballinacor)
|
A branch of the Nugent family acquired Ballinacor, county Westmeath, in the early 17th century. Edmond Nugent succeeded to this property in the early 18th century. He married Elizabeth daughter of Oliver D’Alton of Loughan (Mount Dalton). She was created a Countess of the Holy Roman Empire by Empress Maria Teresa in 1778. Her son James succeeded to this title as Count, as did his descendants. James’ son Edmond married Teresa daughter of Bryan Geoghegan of Rosemount and died in 1828. Their son James married Olivia Stapleton of Dublin and sold the estate in 1852 to Charles Hall in the Encumbered Estates Court. The Nugents of Streamstown were a branch of this family. The Nugent interest in Streamstown mansion and demesne lands was for sale on 12 Feb 1852 in the Encumbered Estates Court.
