Murray (Mountmurray)

This family resided at Mountmurray, County Westmeath, from the late 17th century, William Murray having purchased forfeited lands granted to Lord Aungier and Thomas Newcomen. Alexander Murray was resident in 1803 (Post Chaise Companion). At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) Henry Murray was an immediate lessor in the parishes of Russagh and Portnashangan, while Major Alexander Murray’s property was in the parish of Killare. In the 1870s Henry Murray of Mountmurray owned 1,377 acres.
