Name Description
Nugent (Dysart and Portaferry) The Nugent family of Portaferry, County Down and Dysart, County Westmeath are descended from the Savage family of Portaferry and the Nugents of Dysart. Andrew Savage of Portaferry married Margaret daughter of Andrew Nugent of Dysart, county Westmeath and his wife Lady Katherine, daughter and co-heir of Thomas, 4th Earl of Westmeath. Their grandson Andrew (1770-1846) of Portaferry assumed the name Nugent. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) his son Patrick John Nugent held an estate in the parish of Dysart, County Westmeath amounting to over 2,000 acres. The Nugents’ County Down estate was over 4,500 acres.
