Stewart (Fort Stewart)

At the time of Griffith's Valuation in the 1850s, Sir James Stewart was among the principal landowners in the parishes of Aughnish, Conwal and Tullyfern, barony of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal. He was the son of Sir Annesley Stewart. His wife was Mary Whaley, of Whaley Abbey, County Wicklow.
In 1868 a portion of this estate in the barony of Kilmacrenan, leased to James McMonagle, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court.
In the 1870s, Hussey de Burgh records that his estate amounted to over 7000 acres in County Donegal when it was the property of Mrs. Anne Stewart (nee Hyde).
