Estate(s)

Name Description
Lyle In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh records Major Hugh Lyle as the proprietor of over 4000 acres in County Donegal. Thomas Lyle of Strabane was the proprietor of over 2000 acres at the same time. The Lyle family had been associated with landholding and local administration in Derry and Donegal since the 18th century. Burke suggests that the various branches of this family derive from Hugh Lyle, who possibly came from Renfrewshire, Scotland in the early eighteenth century.
